Map layers and display options

Customise your map view with zones, coverage, heatmaps, and display options for better fleet visibility.

The Track My Ride map has lots of layers and options you can turn on and off to customise what you see.

How to access map layers

  1. Look for the layers icon (stacked rectangles) in the top right corner of the map
  2. Click it to open the map options menu
  3. Tick or untick options to turn them on or off

Map style (Street or Satellite)

Switch between two different map views:

Streets (default)

  • Traditional road map view
  • Shows street names, suburbs, and landmarks
  • Best for navigation and addresses

Satellite

  • Aerial/satellite imagery
  • Shows actual buildings and terrain
  • Best for identifying specific properties or rural areas

💡 Tip: Save your preferred map style in Settings > Application Settings so it's always the same.

Display options

Group Markers

When multiple vehicles are parked close together, they're grouped into a single circle with a number showing how many vehicles are there.

What it looks like: A green circle with "6" means 6 vehicles are grouped together

Why use it: Keeps the map clean when you have lots of vehicles in one area (like a depot)

To see individual vehicles: Zoom in and the group breaks apart

Hide Markers

Turns off all vehicle pins on the map. You'll only see paths (if enabled).

When to use it: When you only want to see where vehicles have been, not where they are now

Show Labels

Displays the vehicle or driver's name above each vehicle pin on the map.

When enabled: You can see "TMR Blue" or "John's Van" without clicking on the vehicle

When disabled: Vehicle names only appear when you click the pin

💡 Tip: Turn this off if you have lots of vehicles clustered together – it gets messy!

Auto-fit Markers

Automatically zooms the map to show all your vehicles.

How it works: If you haven't moved the map in the last 4 minutes, it automatically zooms to fit all vehicles on screen

When to disable: If you want to stay zoomed in on a specific area

Map layers (what to display)

Paths

Shows the coloured lines showing where each vehicle has travelled recently.

To change how long the path shows:

  1. Click the "Paths to Display" button (top right corner)
  2. Choose from 15 minutes to 24 hours

💡 Tip: Shorter path times keep the map cleaner. Longer times help you see patterns over the day.

Zones

Shows your geofences (zones) on the map as coloured shapes.

What zones look like: Coloured outlined areas (e.g., red box around your warehouse)

Why show zones: See which vehicles are in which zones at a glance

Learn more: See our guide on "How to create geofences" (coming soon)

Heatmap

Shows a coloured overlay indicating where your vehicles spend the most time.

What it shows:

  • Red areas = High traffic (vehicles spend lots of time here)
  • Yellow/orange = Moderate traffic
  • Blue/green = Low traffic
  • No colour = No vehicle activity

How it works: The heatmap analyses all the GPS points currently shown in the "Paths" layer and colours the map based on frequency and proximity.

Perfect for:

  • Identifying your busiest areas
  • Finding common routes
  • Spotting patterns in vehicle movement
  • Planning depot locations

Coverage

Shows mobile network coverage on the map as coloured overlays.

Coverage types shown:

  • 4G Indoor – Works inside buildings
  • 4G Outdoor – Works outside only
  • 3G Indoor – Older network, inside
  • 3G Outdoor – Older network, outside

Important notes:

  • TMR-S1 and TMR-S7 (older models): Shows Vodafone coverage only
  • TMR-S8 and newer models: Connect to Telstra, Optus, AND Vodafone automatically (use whichever has the best signal)

Why use this layer: Check if an area has mobile coverage before driving there. No coverage = tracker can't send live updates (but will store data and upload later).

Save your preferences

Don't want to set these options every time you open the map?

Save your default settings:

  1. Go to Settings (cog icon)
  2. Click Application Settings
  3. Scroll to Map Settings
  4. Set your preferred defaults:
    • Map style (Streets or Satellite)
    • Show/hide paths
    • Show/hide zones
    • Default path display time
    • And more!
  5. Click Save

Now every time you open the map, it will look exactly how you want it

Tips

💡 Can't find a vehicle? Make sure "Hide Markers" is turned off

💡 Map too cluttered? Enable "Group Markers" and reduce path display time

💡 Working in rural areas? Turn on the "Coverage" layer to see mobile reception

💡 Analysing patterns? Enable the "Heatmap" layer to see where vehicles spend the most time

💡 Using satellite view? It's great for rural properties or construction sites where street maps aren't detailed
