How to customise your Track My Ride settings

Set up Track My Ride to work exactly how you want it – from map preferences to journey tracking

Track My Ride has loads of settings you can customise to make the app work exactly how you want it. From choosing what you see when you first log in, to how long a vehicle needs to be stopped before a journey ends – it's all up to you.

What you can customise:

  • Your default homepage
  • Map appearance and behaviour
  • Journey tracking rules
  • How vehicles are displayed
  • Playback settings
  • And much more!

How to access your settings

  1. Log into Track My Ride at https://app.trackmyride.com.au (or use the mobile app)
  2. Click the Settings icon (looks like a cog/gear)
  3. Click the Application Settings tab

Saving your changes

Important: After changing any settings, you must click Save at the bottom of the page.

After saving, you'll see a popup asking if you want to apply your new settings immediately:

  • Click Confirm to reload the app with your new settings now
  • Click Cancel if you want the changes to apply next time you log in

General Settings

These settings control the basics of how Track My Ride looks when you first open it.

Home page

Choose which page loads first when you log in.

Options:

  • Map (default) – Shows all your vehicles on the map
  • Vehicles – Lists all your vehicles
  • Drivers – Shows your driver list
  • Alerts – Displays any active alerts
  • My Journeys – Your journey reports
  • Reports – Access reporting tools
  • Mobile Tracking (Mobile app only) – For setting up mobile tracking

Tip: If you mostly use Track My Ride to check reports, set your homepage to Reports to skip straight there.

Mobile link page

This controls whether the mobile tracking setup page appears in the mobile app.

Options:

  • Show (default) – Display the mobile tracking setup page
  • Hide – Don't show it

What's this for? If you've already set up mobile tracking on your phone, you can hide this page to declutter your app.

Map Settings

These settings control how the map looks and behaves. They're the same options we covered in the "Understanding map layers" article, but here you can set your defaults so they're always the way you want.

Seconds before stopped

How long (in seconds) must a vehicle be stopped before a stop marker appears on the map?

Default: 60 seconds (1 minute)

Example: If you set this to 300 seconds (5 minutes), quick stops at traffic lights won't show as stops – only proper stops lasting 5+ minutes will appear on the map.

Note: This is separate from the journey report settings (see "End of journey" below).

Vehicle sort order

How should your vehicles be listed?

Options:

  • Most recent activity – Vehicles that moved most recently appear first
  • Name ascending – A to Z
  • Name descending – Z to A

Tip: "Most recent activity" is great for finding busy vehicles quickly. Alphabetical order is better for finding a specific vehicle by name.

Paths to display

How much vehicle tracking history should appear on the main map?

Options:

  • 5 minutes
  • 15 minutes
  • 30 minutes
  • 1 hour
  • 2 hours
  • 6 hours
  • 12 hours
  • 24 hours

Example: If you choose "2 hours", the map will show where each vehicle has been for the last 2 hours as a coloured line.

Tip: Shorter times (5-30 minutes) keep the map cleaner. Longer times (6-24 hours) are great for reviewing a full day's work.

Playback to display

When you click on a vehicle to enter playback mode, how much history should load?

Options:

  • 15 minutes
  • 30 minutes
  • 1 hour
  • 2 hours
  • 6 hours
  • 12 hours
  • 24 hours

Different from "Paths to display": This only affects playback mode, not the main map view.

Map tile style

Choose between two map views:

  • Street map – Shows roads, streets, and place names clearly
  • Satellite – Aerial photography view

When to use satellite:

  • Rural properties or farms
  • Construction sites
  • Areas where street maps aren't detailed
  • When you need to see the actual terrain

When to use street map:

  • City and suburban areas
  • When you need clear road names
  • For easier navigation

Map options

Turn these features on or off to customise your map view:

Group markers

When enabled, vehicles that are close together will be grouped into a single numbered marker. Click the group to zoom in and see individual vehicles.

Turn this ON if: You have lots of vehicles in the same area and the map looks cluttered
Turn this OFF if: You want to see every vehicle separately at all times

Label map markers

Show the vehicle or driver's name above each marker on the map.

Turn this ON if: You want to quickly identify vehicles without clicking them
Turn this OFF if: It makes the map too cluttered

Auto-fit map to markers

Automatically adjust the map zoom to show all vehicles if you haven't interacted with the map for 4 minutes.

Turn this ON if: You want the map to always show all your vehicles
Turn this OFF if: You prefer to manually control the map zoom and position

Snap to road

Make vehicle paths follow actual roads rather than showing the raw GPS points.

Turn this ON if: You want cleaner, more professional-looking paths
Turn this OFF if: You need to see the exact GPS track (useful for off-road vehicles)

Important notes:

  • Snapped paths are approximate and may not match the actual path travelled
  • Walking speeds below 15km/h won't be snapped
  • Only works on roads that appear in the mapping data

Paths layer

Show recent vehicle history as coloured lines on the main map.

Turn this ON if: You want to see where vehicles have been
Turn this OFF if: You only care about current locations

Note: The time period shown is controlled by the "Paths to display" setting above.

Zones layer

Show your zones (geofences) on the map.

Turn this ON if: You use zones and want to see them all the time
Turn this OFF if: Zones make your map too busy

Heatmap layer

Show a coloured overlay indicating where your vehicles spend the most time.

Great for:

  • Identifying your busiest work areas
  • Spotting patterns in vehicle usage
  • Planning based on frequently visited locations

Turn this ON if: You want to analyse where vehicles go most often
Turn this OFF if: You don't need this information right now

Show marker coordinates

Display the latitude and longitude coordinates in the vehicle popup on the main map.

Turn this ON if: You need exact GPS coordinates
Turn this OFF if: You don't need this technical information

Show map marker closest address

Add a button to look up the nearest street address for each map marker.

Turn this ON if: You want easy access to street addresses
Turn this OFF if: You don't need address lookups

Show exact timestamps

Show precise times (like "10:45:32 AM") instead of relative times (like "5 minutes ago").

Turn this ON if: You need exact times for records or reporting
Turn this OFF if: Relative times are easier to understand at a glance

Enhanced satellite map zoom

Allow one extra level of zoom when using satellite view.

Turn this ON if: You need maximum detail in satellite view
Turn this OFF if: Standard zoom levels are enough

Note: Satellite imagery may not be available in all areas at this zoom level.

Journey Settings

Important: Journey settings are only available on the Fleet Metrics plan. If you're on the Lite plan, you won't see these options.

Journey settings control how Track My Ride automatically tracks and classifies your vehicle journeys.

Driver auto logoff

Automatically log a driver out of a vehicle when a journey ends.

Turn this ON if: You want drivers to be logged out automatically
Turn this OFF if: Drivers should stay logged in until they manually log out

Note: This feature only works with hardware trackers (not mobile tracking).

End of journey

How long must a vehicle be stopped before Track My Ride considers the journey finished?

Options:

  • 3 minutes
  • 5 minutes
  • 10 minutes (typical default)
  • 15 minutes
  • 30 minutes

Example: If you set this to 15 minutes, the vehicle can be stopped for up to 14 minutes and Track My Ride will consider it part of the same journey. Stop for 15+ minutes and a new journey starts when you drive off.

Tip:

  • Short time (3-5 minutes): Better for multiple short trips (delivery drivers)
  • Long time (15-30 minutes): Better for jobs with on-site work (trades, construction)

Journeys default to

Should new journeys automatically be classified as business or private?

Options:

  • Business
  • Private

What this means: Existing unmodified journeys in your reports will be updated to match this setting. You can always manually change individual journeys later.

Tip: Most fleet businesses set this to "Business" since most trips are work-related.

Auto Journey Classification (Business or Private)

Track My Ride can automatically classify journeys as business or private based on your zones, rosters, and reservations.

How it works: You set a priority order for three classification methods:

  1. Zones – Geofenced areas you've created
  2. Rosters – Scheduled work times for drivers
  3. Reservations – Booked vehicle usage times

The system checks each method in your chosen order. A match from a higher-priority method will override matches from lower-priority methods.

Example orders and what they mean:

Rosters → Reservations → Zones (default)

  • Check rosters first
  • If no roster match, check reservations
  • If no reservation match, check zones
  • Zones have the highest priority (override everything else)

Zones → Rosters → Reservations

  • Check zones first
  • Zones have the lowest priority (can be overridden)

Rosters only

  • Only use roster matching
  • Ignore zones and reservations

Disabled

  • Don't use automatic classification
  • All journeys use the "Journeys default to" setting

Important: In the priority order, items on the right have the highest priority.

Example scenario: You've set "Rosters → Reservations → Zones" and a journey:

  • Is classified as Private by a Roster
  • Is classified as Business by a Zone

Result: The journey will be classified as Business because Zones have higher priority.

Roster and reservation matching

Should a journey's start time, stop time, or both need to match your rosters/reservations?

Options:

  • Either journey start or stop time must be within (default) – Journey counts as a match if either the start OR end time falls within the roster/reservation
  • Both journey start & stop time must be within – Journey only counts as a match if BOTH start AND end times are within the roster/reservation
  • Match journey start time only – Only the start time needs to be within the roster/reservation
  • Match journey stop time only – Only the end time needs to be within the roster/reservation

Tip: "Either start or stop" is the most flexible and catches the most journeys. Use "Both start & stop" for stricter matching.

Roster and reservation padding

Add extra time before and after rosters and reservations to catch journeys that start slightly early or finish slightly late.

Turn this ON if: Your drivers sometimes start a bit early or finish a bit late
Turn this OFF if: You want strict matching with no flexibility

Padding amount

If padding is enabled, how much extra time should be added before and after rosters/reservations?

Example: If you set 15 minutes padding and a roster runs from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM:

  • Journeys starting as early as 8:45 AM will match
  • Journeys ending as late as 5:15 PM will match

Tip: 10-15 minutes is usually enough to catch early/late starts without being too lenient.
