Choosing the best install location
Find the perfect spot to install your GPS tracker for the best signal and accurate tracking.
Why location matters
Your GPS tracker needs to "see" the sky to work properly. The better view it has of the sky, the better it will track your vehicle.

What you need to know
GPS signals and materials
✓ GPS works through: Glass, plastic, and fibreglass
✗ GPS doesn't work through: Metal and carbon fibre
The problem with metal: All metal blocks GPS signals. The thicker or more metal there is, the weaker the signal becomes. Too much metal and your tracker won't work at all.
Our trackers have sensitive internal antennas that can work through thin metal, but it's best to avoid metal when possible.
Orientation (which way to point it)
Your tracker has "Face this side toward sky" printed on it.
Keep this side:
- Facing upward toward the sky
- As level (flat) as possible
Special note for trucks with vertical windscreens: You can angle the tracker diagonally toward the front windscreen so it still faces the sky. This helps avoid the metal roof directly above the dashboard blocking the signal.
Safety first
⚠️ Never install where:
- The tracker or wires could interfere with airbag deployment
- It could become a projectile in an accident
- It could get wet (unless you have a waterproof model)
Best location: Under the dashboard
We recommend installing your tracker under the dashboard, as high up as possible.
- Attach it to the top underside of the dashboard using the included hook and loop tape (Velcro)
- Make sure "Face toward sky" is pointing upward
- Position it where there's minimal metal above it
- Best GPS signal
- Hidden and discrete
Alternative locations
If you can't access under the dashboard, try these locations instead:
- Glove box
- Under the steering column
- Rear parcel shelf (the shelf behind rear seats)
Important: These alternative locations may give weaker GPS signal than under the dashboard.
Test your installation
After installing in your chosen location:
- Take your vehicle for a test drive
- Check the app to see if the tracker recorded your journey correctly
- If the tracking looks good, you're all set!
- If the tracking is patchy or missing, you may need to move the tracker to a better location

Troubleshooting: Tracker can't get GPS signal
If your tracker can't get a GPS signal or keeps losing it:
You'll need to move the tracker to a location with a clearer view of the sky.
Why this happens: GPS satellites are constantly moving across the sky. If your tracker is in a spot with lots of metal or obstructions above it, it might only work sometimes (when satellites happen to be in the right position).
How to check signal quality: Use the "Raw GPS Data" report in your account to see how many satellites your tracker can see.
- Minimum needed: 4 satellites
- Better: 6+ satellites
- Best: 8+ satellites
The more satellites it can see, the better and more accurate your tracking will be.
